NAM President Asks Vice President Pence to Invoke 25th Amendment

WASHINGTON, D.C.National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons has released the following statement in response to large groups of Trump supporters who breached the U.S. Capitol building as members of Congress met to count the electoral votes Wednesday:

“Armed violent protestors who support the baseless claim by outgoing president Trump that he somehow won an election that he overwhelmingly lost have stormed the U.S. Capitol today, attacking police officers and first responders, because Trump refused to accept defeat in a free and fair election. Throughout this whole disgusting episode, Trump has been cheered on by members of his own party, adding fuel to the distrust that has enflamed violent anger. This is not law and order. This is chaos. It is mob rule. It is dangerous. This is sedition and should be treated as such. The outgoing president incited violence in an attempt to retain power, and any elected leader defending him is violating their oath to the Constitution and rejecting democracy in favor of anarchy. Anyone indulging conspiracy theories to raise campaign dollars is complicit. Vice President Pence, who was evacuated from the Capitol, should seriously consider working with the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to preserve democracy.

“This is not the vision of America that manufacturers believe in and work so hard to defend. Across America today, millions of manufacturing workers are helping our nation fight the deadly pandemic that has already taken hundreds of thousands of lives. We are trying to rebuild an economy and save and rebuild lives. But none of that will matter if our leaders refuse to fend off this attack on America and our democracy—because our very system of government, which underpins our very way of life, will crumble.”

Go straight for impeachment. Then he cannot run again. He needs to be banned from public office.

Where was your outrage last summer about the events in Portland & Seattle & DC when the Church was in flames? You should not be making political statements from you podium as the leader of an important association unless you do it without bias.
The events yesterday were awful & we should all be upset but you should express yours as an individual not as a leader of a multi- faceted organization.

I could not have said it better!

    Mr. Timmons,
Do not be so naive, take a look at what is really going on in this country. And no, violence is not the answer.

Despicable actions; however, these same voices did not come out against the BLM and Antifa when they destroyed millions of dollars of property and caused many small business people to go out of business. Their actions were much worse.

Very well said Jay. You are showing real Leadership !
Funny how people criticize you for being 100% honest and truthful about a chaotic situation brought about by the President and his followers, who stormed the Capitol based on FALSE and UNTRUTHFUL claims and assertions.
Yesterday was quite different from a WorldWide response in the summer to REAL and TRUTHFUL problems caused by racial injustice.
Yes, Manufacturing businesses have not benefited from the divisive political environment created by a President who is ambivalent to his actions. So Jay, yes someone should speak out – that is how change and reconciliation comes about !
    Well done !

Ole Jay is probably a Globalist. He is part of the “elite class”. He thinks he’s better than the average bear. Don’t be a sheep! Of course ole Jay may be a sheep himself.
    May God Bless America!

Lost in all the hateful remarks toward our President is the fact that Jay’s manufacturers prospered under the Trump administration. Their stock rose to the highest levels in years. Only the virus and the media brought him down. Your manufacturers are the losers.

TED should not dabble in politics that don’t relate to the news of it’s distributors.

Where does the Big Guy get off asking for the 25TH Amendment be invoked in the name of The National Association of Manufactures? If he wants to display his anti Trump feeling to the world do it in his name, not all manufactures. Like entertainers, athletes and anyone who depends on the masses keep your thoughts to yourself. Any time you voice your opinion you alienate 1/2 of the population.

As of today VP Pence refused the whims of the haters and won’t invoke the 25th. Rightly so. Now will Jay please take his marbles and go home and tend to business?
