Nelson to retire from Border States Electric; Novak named vice president of marketing

Barry Nelson, vice president
marketing, will retire March 31, 2013, from Border States Electric (BSE).

BSE has named Patrick Novak the
new vice president marketing.

Nelson began his career working
for Graybar Electric as a trainee in 1977. He held a variety of positions
including warehouse, city desk, inside sales, telemarketing and outside sales.
In 1985, he worked for Sterling Electric Supply in Minneapolis, Minn., as a
sales manager, sales and marketing manager and vice president of sales and
marketing.

Nelson joined BSE in 1992 when
BSE acquired Sterling Electric Supply. In 1994 he moved to Fargo to develop a
marketing department at the corporate headquarters. He held a variety of
management positions at the corporate level including corporate marketing
manager, vice president sales and marketing for electrical construction, and
most recently vice president marketing. In addition, he also served on the
executive council since 2002.

Over the past 21 years, he has
been an active participant in various National Association of Electrical
Distributors (NAED) task force initiatives such as the development of the NAED
supply chain scorecards and the NAED marketing task force. He also served on
the Affiliated Distributors (AD) electrical supply division boards and has been
an AD network chairman for eight years. Also, he served on the AD leadership in
action task force that created the field marketing summit (FMS) process.

Novak has been
with BSE since December 2000. He held a variety of positions including
strategic business relationship specialist, utility sales and marketing
coordinator, electric utility marketing manager, utility market manager and
most recently director of marketing. On April 1, 2013, he will assume the
position of vice president marketing. He is also a board member of the North
American Association of Utility Distributors (NAAUD).

BSE supplies products and services to construction,
industrial and utility customers. The 100% employee-owned company is the eighth
largest electrical distributor in the United States with nearly 1,500 employees
and 55 branches in 13 states. Corporate headquarters are located in Fargo, N.D.
