According to a report by Bloomberg, Osram Licht AG is in talks with Bain Capital and Carlyle Group LP about a potential takeover. The move would take the business private.
The two firms are considering a joint acquisition, Munich-based Osram said in a statement Wednesday, and could make a bid by the end of March.
The lighting manufacturer has struggled since Siemens AG sold off the last of its stake in October of 2017, and warned earlier this year of problems worsened by weak growth in China. This has attracted equity firms looking for cheap deals in depressed sectors.
The talks with Bain and Carlyle are ongoing and no final decisions have been made, Osram said in its statement.
