Siemens plans to begin producing spare parts for its gas turbine engines using 3D printing technology starting next month, the Financial Times reported today. The global manufacturer hopes to reduce maintenance costs and repair times.
3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, has been used in the medical and dental fields for some time. Siemens, however, is one of the first global industrial manufacturers to regularly produce metal parts using 3D printing technology.
