Sonepar, global distributor of electrical products with operations in 41 countries and turnover of more than EUR 16bn, announced that it acquired Gruppo Matel Spa on January 12, 2015.
Founded in Italy in 1987, Gruppo Matel Spa is a full-service electrical supplies distributor, mostly in the residential market, that posted sales of EUR 28 million (USD 32.6 million) in 2013. The Padua-based company operates out of seven branches, with its presence primarily in the country’s Northeast region. This acquisition will give Sonepar better coverage of Italy’s most dynamic region. Gruppo Matel Spa also has a presence in Romania under the brand name Eurosei, with three branches in the country’s biggest cities. Its sales in Romania totaled EUR 2 million in 2013.
