Sonepar Announces Two More Acquisitions

Sonepar is announcing two more acquisitions, including one in the Czech Republic and a second acquisition in Malaysia in a week.

Sonepar announced that VaP joined the Sonepar family at the beginning of June. With this new acquisition, Sonepar strengthens its position in Czech Republic.

Founded in 1992, with annual sales of 11 million euros and 38 associates, VaP will add to Sonepar’s geographic coverage with four branches, especially in the southern part of the country.

VaP serves cable, installation and industrial materials as well as lighting products mainly to installers, industry and utilities.

Sonepar is welcoming Václav Pešek, Managing Director, and all the associates of VaP.

At the same time, Sonepar is announcing that Sonepar Asia-Pacific has entered into majority partnership with Sun Power in Malaysia.

Established in July 2004, with more than 16 million euros of sales and 80 associates based in a single location in Klang Valley (South West of Kuala Lumpur), Sun Power will complement Sonepar’s network of operations in Malaysia where the Group has been building a significant position in the electrical distribution market since 2008.

Sun Power is a leading specialized distributor of electrical protection equipment to the construction industry in Malaysia, including retailers, switchboard manufacturers and users.

Sonepar is pleased to welcome Terence Tan, Justin Lim, Sunny Kok, Jackie Chan and all the associates of Sun Power.

News of these acquisitions comes just days after tED magazine reported that Sonepar acquired the companies MGM Electric in Canada and Interstate in Malaysia.

Founded 25 years ago, MGM sells electrical and lighting products to both electrical contractors and the mining, forestry, and pulp and paper industries.

Founded in 1990, Interstate includes two entities. Interstate M&E distributes electrical and mechanical products to the oil and gas, power, and petrochemical industries. Alongside this entity, Interstate Solutions has built up expertise in the distribution of security and access control solutions. These two companies will strengthen Sonepar’s position in these businesses in Southeast Asia.

Sonepar has also acquired the companies IESA (Costa Rica) and Melexa (Colombia), marking a new stage in the construction of a Latin American network made up of local market leaders.

As a result of these acquisitions, the Group now operates in a total of 40 different countries.

Founded in 1975 in San José, IESA (Instalación Eléctrica SA) is the number two provider in the Costa Rican market, and serves electrical installers and construction contractors through five branches supplied by a central warehouse.

Melexa, the number one provider in Colombia with annual sales of €80 million, covers the country with its eight branches, and has opened another one in Panama. As a Rockwell distributor, Melexa supplies industrial customers, resellers, and installers with cable, industrial automation, and datacom products and solutions.
