Welcome to “The Good Stuff”, where we highlight positive news and ways that NAED employees and member companies go above and beyond to give back to their communities! If you have some “Good Stuff” that you would like to share with tED, find out how below.

Today we’re looking at Van Meter, in Cedar Rapids.

SURVEY SAYS…WE CAN DO A LOT OF GOOD TOGETHER

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — With the help of its customers, Van Meter Inc. is donating $5285 to the Feeding America BackPack Program. Van Meter sends out a customer experience survey to its customers every two years, and this year, Van Meter pledged to donate $5 for every survey response.

Why tie a donation to a survey? It’s a win for all parties.

“Providing this incentive to complete the survey improves our business and, more importantly, helps kids in our own communities,” said Chief Marketing Officer Karmen Wilhelm. “Our customers and our communities mean a lot to us, so it’s great we could help both at the same time.”

The Feeding America BackPack program provides families free groceries for weekends and school breaks when kids are not able to eat lunch at school. Children are discretely given backpacks full of healthy meals, so they can get the nutrition they need without fear of being singled out by their classmates. Feeding America hosts over 10,000 BackPack programs across the United States, so the donation supports local food banks.

“Giving back to the places where we work and live is one of our core values, and when we can help children, it has a special impact,” said Community Impact Specialist Danielle Monthei. “One of these children could be a future customer or even a fellow employee-owner at Van Meter, so helping them is just the best.”

Van Meter sent out a series of emails encouraging its customers to take the survey and letting them know how completing the survey would benefit the BackPack program. Compared to Van Meter’s 2021 survey, the total number of responses increased by 106%.
