Enter any one of the Turtle & Hughes locations this September and you might notice something a little different. That’s because September is National Childhood Cancer Prevention Month and its employees have ramped up their year-long support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Throughout the organization, teams of employees and their families are sponsoring raffles, participating in charity sporting events, hosting bake sales and lemonade stands, and more. They are working together to surpass the company's $10,000 corporate commitment as a Copper Level National Team for the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer. The Walk/Run events occur in September in cities nationwide.
About 175,000 children around the world are diagnosed each year with cancer. More than 80 percent of those children live in low- or middle-income countries, and more than half of them won’t survive. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and they won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.
Turtle & Hughes has been involved in many employee giving programs. This year is different because the employee-owners voted to support St. Jude in a company-wide survey. There is wide support with 17 teams participating in local Walk/Run events. Employees have raised over $9,400, to date.
