Van Meter Earns 2023 “Top Workplace” Honor in Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Van Meter Inc., a 100-percent employee-owned electrical and automation distributor and solution provider with 25 locations across the Midwest, announced it has been selected again as one of Iowa’s Top Workplaces.

The Top Workplace designation is based on a feedback survey of employees who rate their connection, engagement, leadership, performance and basic workplace benefits and expectations. Van Meter ranked No. 15 among the state’s top mid-size companies.

Why is employee engagement important? According to Energage, organizations that improve their business through employee engagement have greater productivity, higher profitability, lower turnover, better safety, and improved customer satisfaction.

According to Lura McBride, Van Meter’s President and CEO, there is a direct correlation between higher engagement and business growth at Van Meter.

“We prioritize having a culture where employee-owners know they have a voice and that the work they do has a direct impact on our performance,” said McBride. “Their ideas, energy and commitment to creating lasting value for others fuels our success. We call it the power of our people.”

In partnership with Energage, the Des Moines Register published the complete list on Sunday, September 17. Energage conducts Top Workplace surveys annually to measure organizational health and employee engagement.

“Having a mental and emotional connection to your work, your team and the business you own together is a powerful thing. Engaged employees are passionate about their work, and their mindset positively influences company value,” added McBride. “This has proven itself repeatedly at Van Meter, as the strength of our engagement score over time mirrors that of our stock value. Simply put, valuing our employee-owners increases the value of our company.”
