Mark Hortman, one of the victims from the shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers on June 14th, was a Program Manager at nVent.
Hortman’s LinkedIn page shows he started working at nVent in 2021, where he was “guiding programs and agile coach for several teams as they re-platform onto new CMS technology and relaunch several major e-commerce websites.” Hortman also listed coordinated and controlled work for four vendors resulting in successful launch of websites including nvent.com and schroff.nvent.com, and coached teams in Agile/SAFe methodologies allowing coordination across teams and quarterly planning.
His LinkedIn profile lists him as a “Multi-faceted, personable technical leader for designing, managing, developing, testing, and deploying apps, e-commerce, SAAS, and web-based applications. Leveraging diverse industry background from e-commerce, finance, health, and wellness to manufacturing, maintaining productivity in fast-paced environments. Innovative and entrepreneurial with expertise running and building a profitable business. Scrum Master in Agile to lead, coach, and facilitate Scrum events. Versatile to translate complex information to technical and non-technical levels, can speak to both engineering and business leaders to drive understanding. Collaborative style, passionate about taking on complicated situations, and designing processes to boost efficiency.”
The LinkedIn page also shows Hortman earned a number of certifications and licenses since joining nVent in 2021, including Certified Scrum Product Owner and Lean Foundations.
Hortman and his wife, Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman, were killed at their home early Saturday morning in an attack that is described as politically motivated. Police captured the suspect on June 15. The gunman is also accused of shooting a second Minnesota lawmaker, Senator John Hoffman, and his wife, Yvette. The Hoffmans are expected to survive the shootings.
Mark Hortman posted several pictures of his family on his Facebook page, including vacation photos from around the world. He also posted about support for women in politics.

Mark was a valuable member of our Twin Cities-area team and worked closely with colleagues globally, across nVent. More than a colleague, he was a friend to many and will be remembered for his intelligence, kindness and generosity. His loss will be felt company-wide.
