NAED’s Government Relations department is keeping our members updated about current happenings in D.C. The latest Washington Wire is here, recapping current events such as the end of the government shutdown, an update on the VET Act, rising electricity prices, and more.
Government Shutdown Ends
President Trump signed a bill to end the historic shutdown and extend funding through January 30. The agreement restores back pay, resumes key programs, and highlights ongoing partisan divides over health care and federal spending. President Trump laid blame for the shutdown on Democrats and asked to eliminate the filibuster to prevent future lapses, a strategy that received a cool reception by most in the GOP.
VET Act Update
The bipartisan VET Act has grown to 13 House cosponsors. The bill would provide grants of up to ten thousand dollars to support veteran hiring and training across the electrical industry. NAED and its coalition partners are continuing to work on this legislation. To share your company’s veteran stories or get involved, contact Bud DeFlaviis at bud@naed.org.
Electricity Prices
A new American Action Forum analysis shows electricity prices rose ten percent in early 2025, driven by data center and manufacturing demand. Residential rates remain the highest, though inflation-adjusted costs have been stable. Full insights are available on our website.
