What’s Your Video Plan For 2015?

By Scott Costa, Publisher, tED magazine/tedmag.com

It’s always important to track trends to see what is popular, whether we are talking about fashion, sports strategy, technology or a variety of other areas.

You can add marketing to that list, because we are right in the middle of a serious trend in the use of video for our electrical industry marketing needs.

Don’t believe me? Here’s proof: In the last 7 days, our tEDTV website has received 37 new videos from companies like Bridgeport Fittings, Reliance Controls, Orbit, OSRAM Sylvania and RAB Lighting.

It would take hours to count the number of videos currently on the site, and it only launched 6 months ago.

So, that leads to two really important questions.
The first is, “why aren’t you using your talent to market your products through video?” You can’t say you don’t want to invest in the equipment, because you have a smartphone, and that smartphone has a camera that can record video. Yes, it’s that easy. There are a wide variety of free apps that will also allow you to edit that video right there on your phone. Some of the most popular and most viewed videos taken and edited in 2014 were done with a smartphone.

Someone in your company knows how to use the items you already own to help market your products in new and creative ways through video. It’s your job to find them and use it to the highest potential. I can tell you that based on the number of videos currently on tEDTV, this is a trend that has already started and if you are not using it, you are behind the curve.

And the second question is, “are you using tEDTV as a tool to help your distributorship?” It’s so simple to learn about new products, see how they work or learn more about your manufacturer partners because it’s so easy to find everything you are looking for. The manufacturers who have already embraced this trend are talking directly to each of you. Use that to your advantage.

I am convinced that 2015 is the year video comes to the marketing forefront. tED magazine will be using more videos to not only market itself to you, but also as a way to bring you stories about industry happenings in a new, entertaining and relevant format.

This is a trend that is going to be around for quite some time. Don’t be caught searching for information when its right there on your computer.
