Border States Electric receives two awards

Border States Electric (BSE) was recognized as the 2013 ESOP Company of the Year by the Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter of the ESOP Association, at its chapter meeting in Minneapolis, Minn.

BSE received this award for their involvement and participation in the chapter and national association, high level of employee communications, community involvement and government relations activities. The recognition has been forwarded on to the national award competition, which will be announced at the awards banquet as part of the Annual National ESOP Conference in Washington, D.C., on May 8, 2013

“Employee-ownership is a significant part of our culture at BSE, and we are honored to receive this recognition,” said Sherri Sandvig, vice president human resources. “Thanks to our employee-owners, we continue to surpass industry benchmarks, bringing success and keeping us growing.”

BSE also received recognition at their Marshall, Minn. location, specifically. The location was recognized as a Marshall GreenStep Business. The company was acknowledged for its efforts in solid waste prevention, conservation of resources, recycling and energy efficiency.

The city of Marshall was officially recognized in April 2012, by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, as a Step One GreenStep City as a part of the Minnesota GreenStep Cities program. Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a challenge, assistance and recognition program to help cities achieve their sustainability goals through implementation of 28 best practices.

“One of our core values at BSE is to enhance the quality of life in the community where we live. One of the ways we can accomplish this is to focus on sustainability and reducing our impact on the environment. We believe in the basics of reducing, reusing and recycling,” said Randy Demuth, branch manager.
