Mentor, Ohio – EYE Lighting International, a leading manufacturer of lamps, luminaires, controls, and related lighting products, will be participating in the Mentor Public Schools Career Expo on Thursday, October 17, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Mentor High School. The event is an opportunity for parents and students, kindergarten through grade 12, to gain information and guidance from experts in a variety of careers and industries.
Suzy Beatrice, director of human resources, commented, “Every manufacturing job today requires technically skilled workers to operate machinery, computers and communicate across departments. The lighting industry is rapidly developing from less traditional lighting to new electronic and LED sources. Our employees represent different degrees and technical abilities.”
Harry West, director of manufacturing added, “It’s important to introduce young students as well as upperclassmen to different job opportunities. Not everyone needs to go to college to have a successful, rewarding career. Our employees need good reading, writing and math skills as well as the ability to follow instruction, demonstrate teamwork and provide input.”
While most manufacturing jobs are best learned from onsite training, some companies like EYE Lighting offer higher education and technical skills training. As a core company principle, EYE Lighting is committed to enhancing the skill set of its employees by offering tuition reimbursement for college courses. It also provides opportunities for training across multiple departments of the manufacturing process.
“Employee cross-training is important because it allows us to be flexible with scheduling to meet our customers supply demands. When we have a need in one department, we can move an employee there from across the floor without having to lose production time or retrain someone new. It also gives our employees a broad set of skills and experience in producing our lamps and lighting products,” added West.Tagged with tED
