FirstEnergy Selects Eaton for Conversion Project at Ohio Power Plant

PITTSBURGH — Power management company Eaton has entered into an agreement with FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) to provide engineering services and equipment for Units 1-3 at FirstEnergy’s Eastlake, Ohio power plant. Through this multi-million dollar contract, Eaton’s Electrical Services and Systems team will supply turnkey project management and equipment conversions that enhance grid stability and reliability. The project is part of FirstEnergy’s Energizing the Future initiative, which includes a series of projects to enhance service reliability across its five-state service area.

“Eaton is committed to providing its expert engineering resources in support of FirstEnergy’s goal of an adaptable, responsive infrastructure that is able to maintain grid reliability through its extensive modernization project,” said John Stampfel, vice president and general manager, Electrical Engineering Services and Systems Division, Eaton.

This project will allow the Eastlake plant to continue to provide an important service to regional electric consumers after it stops generating electricity in September. By retiring coal-fired boilers and converting the generators to synchronous condensers, the plant will be able to adjust conditions on the electric power transmission grid by stabilizing grid voltage.

Eaton has one of the largest and most experienced teams of power system engineers in the industry. Eaton’s Electrical Services and Systems team offers a comprehensive portfolio of services tailored for every stage of a power system’s life cycle, whether design, build or support.
