IDEAL Sponsored Team Takes 3rd Place in Supermileage Competition

SYCAMORE, Ill. – IDEAL sponsored a college engineering team in this month’s Society of Automotive Engineers’ Supermileage competition in Marshall, Michigan. The team placed third overall among 28 teams from the United States and Canada, with a best run of 1,173 miles on a single gallon of gas.

Sponsored by IDEAL and its subsidiary SK Hand Tools, this specially-designed car was constructed by engineering students at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. The single-person, fuel-efficient vehicle is powered by a one-cylinder, four-cycle engine donated by Briggs & Stratton.

Now in its 34th year, the Society of Automotive Engineers’ Supermileage competition pits teams from around the world who are challenged to use advanced materials and technologies, as well as their design creativity, to get the most out of their vehicles. This year’s overall winner was Pennsylvania State University’s Behrend College.
