Leviton Introduces New Electrical Safety Video and Blog Series for DIYers

Melville, New York — Leviton announced an expanded engagement throughout 2014 with Alison Rhodes-Jacobson* The Safety MomSM for the development of a video and blog series available at the newly launched Learn it at Leviton website (www.learnitatleviton.com). The website, designed to educate do-it-yourselfers on how to safely complete home electrical projects, will debut the video, “Simple Steps, Smart Choices: The Safety Mom,” featuring Ms. Rhodes-Jacobson demonstrating the importance of electrical safety in the home and discussing the various Leviton products that help create a safer home environment for the entire family.

On an average day, nearly seven children are treated in emergency rooms for electrical shocks or burns caused by tampering with a wall outlet, according to Electrical Safety Foundation International. As Ms. Rhodes-Jacobson explains in the video, “That’s why Leviton tamper resistant outlets are so important. They feature a shutter-like mechanism to help prevent small hands from inserting most foreign objects into the outlet.” Ms. Rhodes-Jacobson also discusses the importance of GFCIs (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters), AFCIs (Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupters), Illuminated Switches, LED Guide Lights and Weather-Resistant Outlets and Covers.

“The ‘Safety Mom‘ Video and Blog series are very important additions to our resources at ‘Learn it at Leviton’ because they will help educate homeowners as to what electrical safety devices should be installed in their homes as well as other measures to make their homes safer,” said Jay Sherman, Leviton’s Director of Marketing, Residential. “At Leviton, electrical safety is a top priority and we continuously strive to develop electrical safety products that are sensible, reliable and meet the needs of consumers today and in the future.”

The Safety Mom Blog series will cover a range of topics including, “Electrical Codes – Is Your State Up To Date?”, “What’s an AFCI and Why do I Need it?”, “The Benefits of Universal Design” and “The Hidden Electrical Hazards in Your Home.”
