Oregon has become the latest state to ban fluorescent bulbs. Oregon’s Governor Tina Kotek recently signed House Bill 2531.
House Bill 2531 prohibits the sale or distribution of new screw- or bayonet-base type compact fluorescent lamps on or after January 1, 2024 in Oregon.
Into the future, the bill will prohibit the sale or distribution of new pin-base type compact fluorescent lamps and linear fluorescent lamps on or after January 1, 2025.
Violators will be fined as much as $25,000 for each day items are made for sale. Exceptions are being made for specialty lighting applications and older automobiles.
Oregon is the seventh state government to restrict mercury-based lighting.
