Q1 construction spending moving in the right direction

Construction spending in this year’s first quarter (unadjusted) was $177.18 billion, according to the Census Bureau. That’s up 6.7% from 2011’s same period.

March 2012’s seasonally adjusted rate was up 0.1% from one month earlier, and 6.0% from one year ago.

Private residential construction, at $50.28 billion, was up 6.3%. Nonresidential private rose 16.5%, to $65.32 billion. Public construction fell 2.8% compared to 2011, to $$55.58 billion.
