The Home Depot buys home services website, announces hiring plans

The Home Depot has purchased Redbeacon.

In a company news release, The Home Depot described Redbeacon as “…an online home services platform connecting consumers with contractors for their home maintenance, repair and remodeling needs.” Redbeacon says its “technology matches your job with the right pro.”

According to the news release, the leadership team at Redbeacon will stay in San Mateo, Calif. The Home Depot is headquartered in Atlanta, Ga.

Separately, The Home Depot also recently announced its plans to hire more than 70,000 workers to fill seasonal positions. The job openings were announced as The Home Depot prepares for spring, its busiest time of the year for both selling and hiring.

While the positions are seasonal, Tim Crow, the company’s executive vice president for human resources, insists that these jobs have the potential to turn into more permanent work. Crow said, “…a seasonal job at The Home Depot can often lead to a regular position if you’re passionate about customer service.”

The Home Depot says half of its 2011 seasonal workers stayed on in permanent positions.
