Topaz Raises Funds for Local Charities

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. — The team at Topaz Lighting has a mission to not only make a mark on the lighting and electrical industry, but to leave a lasting impression on the world around them. While Topaz employees choose a monthly coffee charity (employees donate $.25 for each hot beverage they consume at work,) this summer they decided to walk the Marcum Workplace Challenge to raise money and show support for four Long Island-based organizations.

On July 31st, nearly thirty-five Topaz employees gathered at the world-famous Jones Beach State Park to walk together in support of The Children’s Medical Fund of NY, Long Island Children’s Museum, Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank, and The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals. Throughout the three-and-a-half-mile run-walk, team members encouraged and supported each other to complete the course. Over 12,000 participants from 195 companies set off with a shared goal in mind to do something for the community, and forged stronger relationships along the way.

In addition to participation, the Topaz marketing also created a t-shirt for the event and entered the Company T-Shirt Design Contest. Topaz Senior Graphic Designer, Loren Finkelstein, designed a shirt for our team that won Most Colorful at the Challenge’s award ceremony that night.

Laurie Darnaby, Topaz Vice President of Human Resources and team captain said, “We have an outstanding team at Topaz. While we know we have smart, hard-working employees, to find a group that is this committed to showing support for the community embodies what Topaz has been built on over the last thirty years.”
